East Neuk of Fife
Jutting out into the North Sea and guarding the entrance to the Firth of Forth, the East Neuk of Fife comprises an agricultural hinterland and a string of coastal villages with a proud fishing heritage. Often described as a ‘fringe of gold’, these villages are clustered around picturesque harbours which still provide a safe haven for fishing vessels – though on a much smaller scale than previously – alongside tourist and recreational activities. Many of the older houses have a distinctive architectural style which owes much to the historic trading connections with the Low Countries across the North Sea.
