Edinburgh sunrise, sunset and moon
As the sun’s course through the sky changes throughout the year, so does the illumination of the city’s architecture and topography change through the seasons. In winter the sun is close to the horizon for much of the day, and produces long shadows. In the summer the sun rises and sets much further round to the north, casting a golden glow over north facing facades. In spring and autumn for a few days each year the sunrise aligns directly with the Royal Mile. The city’s hills and coastline provide excellent viewpoints to enjoy the rising and setting of both the sun and the moon.
