Edinburgh in the mist

This forms in calm anticyclonic conditions, especially in spring and autumn, when moist, mild air condenses over the cold water of the North Sea and drifts inland. The haar may obliterate wide vistas and desaturate colours, but on the other hand it can lend a mysterious quality to Edinburgh’s streets and closes, with tall buildings and spires gradually merging into the mist. In these conditions it is particularly easy to imagine that you have been transported back through time.
